MaMa Pioneers and OBA have partnered to create a new library at IJburg within the Robin Wood project.
MaMa Pioneers and the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (OBA) have signed an agreement to create a library at Robin Wood on Centrumeiland. Situated at a prominent corner of the project, the library will be co-managed with Flexbieb and local residents. Beyond lending books and reading, Robin Wood will foster community connections, offering a hall for debates, concerts, and performances.
Robin Wood will link Pampuslaan with Centrumeiland’s self-built homes through a public, tree-lined pathway, creating a green oasis. Its distinctive wooden facade and sculptural design will blend seamlessly with the area’s small-scale urban fabric.
The building emphasizes sustainability and community engagement, combining cultural programming with mid-range and free-market housing made from Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). It will also host shops, restaurants, artist studios, and potentially student housing and rehearsal spaces for the Conservatorium of Amsterdam, pending an agreement by early 2025.
